" We strive to create the environment from which champions grow."

Swimmer of the Month: July
This month we are recognizing Amanda Ohmert for her steadfast dedication to swimming. Amanda is a gifted swimmer who consistently puts pressure on older teammates.

This talented athlete is first in the water every day and raring to go at every practice. We have seen her times steadily improve and all of us are excited about her bright future in swimming.

Swimmer of the Month: June
Becky R. has steadily gained confidence through the winter and spring, bolstered by her recent heat victory in the 50yd breaststroke at the UPAC Spring Special, Tacoma.

This summer she decided to double her workouts and is suddenly taking off.

She is hardly recognizable from her quiet presence in the spring session, and is now powering her way down the pool, launched by her great block starts.

Now we know that Becky Rocks!

Swimmer of the Month: May
Sophie is the team’s little powerhouse! After moving up into Level 2 at the beginning of the season, her stroke technique has consistently improved.

She regularly attends swim meets, and knows how to have fun while working her heart out at practice. Her efforts are paying off as she is steadily getting better, and making new best times. She is even brave enough to take on the 100 yard Individual Medley - in fact, it is becoming her favorite event!

Keep smiling Sophie!

Swimmer of the Month: April
Leadership and drive define Kate. Throughout the Winter Session Kate focused on achieving her swimming goals and leading by example.

She also assists the younger swimmers with their technique, as well as being a great role model in the pool. As we begin the Spring/Summer sessions we can count on Kate to lead the charge.

Keep kicking Kate!

Swimmer of the Month: March
Kyra is a great team member and her stroke technique has been steadily improving all season.

Her efforts paid off this weekend as she made three new best times at the March Challenge, dropping an overall 8.32 seconds in her 25 yd free, back and breaststroke events. She earned first, second and third place ribbons in the bronze division, and was also the youngest swimmer at the meet.

Her next goal is to tackle the butterfly!

Swimmer of the Month: February
Kendall has what it takes - there is no doubt about it. She stepped up for additional practice and it has paid off.

Her strokes have improved beyond recognition, and at the last meet, she dropped a massive 12 seconds off her previous best 100 yd backstroke time.

She has a bubbly personality, treats her friends and team mates with respect, tries her hardest at all times, and is a postive role model for the younger swimmers.

Congratulations Kendall!

Swimmer of the Month: January
Ashley has consistently exhibited the kind of dedication and good sportsmanship we hope for in a swimmer.

She has a great work ethic, tries her best at all times, and always has a cheery smile and positive attitude - no matter how tough the work-out.

Her strokes have steadily improved and she has been willing to put herself out there at swim meets and give it her best shot.

Congratulations Ashley, you have earned this honor. Keep up the hard work!!

Swimmer of the Month: December
Following in the wake of swimmers before her, Jessica has been chosen not only for voluntarily stepping up to become a higher level athlete, but demonstrating that commitment and best effort can produce best performances.

Jessica's times dropped dramatically in both the November meets.

Her teammates and coaches agree that she adds a certain pizzazz to swim practices and her lively enthusiasm infects all about her.

Congratulation Jessica. Gold is in your future!

Swimmer of the Month: November
Emerson has been working hard, gaining strength, stamina and improving his stroke.

It has paid off - he had the biggest drop in any one event at the last meet—16 seconds in the 100 Free, and he confidently took on the challenge of the 500 Free for the first time.

The taste of success has fired up Emerson and he has voluntarily doubled his training time in the past month.

Keep up the hard work, Emerson - we can't wait to see your times from the next Meet!

Swimmer of the Month: October
After a summer of putting in extra time, Shannon was less than satisfied with the reduction in swim hours caused by the fall schedule.

In her quiet yet effective way, Shannon let it be known that she was prepared to take up in the Fall where she left off in August.

As a result Shannon, "volunteered" for extra hours in the pool and it sure is paying off! Not only is her work ethic an inspiration for other swimmers, her strokes have improved to the point where she is often asked to show other swimmers, "how it's done".

Great work Shannon!

Shannon wrote a great book review of Lynn Cox 'Swimming to Antarctica'. Click here to read it.

Swimmer of the Month: September
As one of the club’s outstanding swimmers, June was awarded the coveted Coaches Award for Excellence at the Annual BBQ in August.

At the start of the Fall session, June & her family realized that she needs to train with a bigger club to be able to achieve her goals and reach her full potential.

The VAC wishes her every success in Tacoma and, without doubt, we will soon be able to say “We knew her when...”

We’ll be cheering, for you, June!
