| Two Session Year-round Swimming |
 |
| In 2008, Vashon Aquatic Club will be bringing itself into line with the national swim club model, by moving up to the two session year.
For the Level 3-5 swimmers there will be a Short Course Fall/Winter session running September-March, and a Long Course Spring/Summer session from April-August. In between the sessions there will be a short break, when the club can offer workshops and clinics.
There are many advantages in progressing to the two session model:
- As the club offers high quality aquatic programs, it needs to align its structure with nationally recognized, progressive training practices.
- Switching to the two session year allows the club to effectively restructure financially. As with other clubs, this will mean a regular monthly fee that can be set up as direct pay - removing the need to give post-dated checks. It will also allow the VAC to offer discounts to families who decide to pay for complete sessions in advance.
- Implementation of the two session model allows coaches to tailor training to ensure each athlete's peak potential for specific, pre-determined swim meets. Our competitve swimmers can focus on stroke drills, strength/stamina training and building their yardage to ensure top performance when it counts.
- The advantage for developmental squads is also clear. Year-round swimming ensures that even our youngest swimmers continue to rapidly develop core stroke skills and healthy exersize habits.
- Club pride and camaraderie build as the whole team works together preparing for one meet when all the VAC squads will attend. Even the youngest swimmers are there in their team colors, to cheer on their team-mates, experience the thrill of the meet and even participate in a race to two.
- The off-season weeks allow the club to shift gears and open the club to the community at large. Here, the focus is on learn-to-swim programs as a way of creating a feeder system for the developmental squads. The club will also offer clinics for swimmers who want to work on specific stroke development.
- Finally, the club can expand the types of instruction to include preschoolers and master swimmers.
